In 5e they have a concentration requirement for certain spells - it something I like it was one of the inspirations for an idea which allows more open ended duration for effects.

I started thinking something like it where something would require focus and thus end if you change your focus, but what if it was implicit.

One might define the duration of an effect as lasting till one spent or recovered a healing surge or perhaps better that is the definition of requiring focus.

One suspects Lugh Long-hand Samildánach (a wright/carpenter, a sailor, a smith/bronze craftsman, a healer, a champion, a harpist, a poet/historian, a sorcerer, cupbearer) would agree.

This kinda reminds me of a characteristic of many force powers in SWSaga, where you can extend them by giving up whatever action slot was needed to activate them, for as many rounds as you want. It works fairly well and it's never caused any major balance issues in my games.

That is similar yet different its rather the action economy being the limit... ae limits could actually be exploited even more than currently actions which require a set up round. Actions which require 2 rounds of cool downs, ie only at-wills following them and sacrifice moves which have immediate costs.
