In D&D defense is treated as a largely passive thing and in some ways aside from which armor your where style - free.

I have taken to assuming hit points could be styled by archetype
from the lucky hero to the skilled or magical or tough guy
this is an element which takes armor class itself and makes it feel a tad more active ...

In case anybody didnt know the name dropped fencing style/maneuver "names" between Wesley and Inigo are real life fencers (not that there is anything real beyond that but flavor is the key)
