Oooh, I've got a few juicy ones to start off with.

The greatest song of all time

A close runner up

And one of my favorites from The Lonely Island

While this isn't by any means my favourite Therion song, it gets many, many bonus points for apparently filming the official video somewhere in Eberron:

This is my favourite Therion song (Who the heck writes song lyrics in ancient Akkadian? Chris Johnsson, that's who!):

Another Swedish band, Garmarna, with a song about a helpful vulture who saves a (possibly adulterous) princess from her evil husband:

Hedningarna (part-Swedish, part-Finnish) singing about a hot shapeshifter (turns out Gary Gygax didn't invent the foxwoman...):

This Tristania (Norwegian!) song inspired a whole D&D campaign arc:

A less traumatic vision of the End of Days, from Elis (from Liechtenstein!), which inspired a whole campaign setting in which the sun god is a lawful evil tyrant and the closest thing to 'good guys' (closer to chaotic neutral hedonists, really) are the nocturnal drow (with their glowing blue moths, of course)*:

That'll do for now. Smile

* - The drow (and other elves) in that world spoke Akkadian, thanks to my favourite Therion song (see above).

Oh, well, if we're doing classics, I'm going to have to post this:

I'm a huuuge music nut! (Who isn't, right?) My favorite changes weekly, and sometimes daily. I can't sit through sad movies, but for some reason I love sad songs, particularly sad songs that tell a story. This week my favorite is Red Dirt Girl by Emmylou Harris.

(For some I can't get the flash tags to work.)

@ Duskweaver, House of the Rising Sun is an old favorite of mine.

The first rendition I heard was of course by the Animals, but I also like Sinead O'Connor's cover muchly.

I'm gonna disagree here. Boulevard of Broken Dreams is clearly the best GD song of all time.

The best song of all time is...well, there's too damn many to pick just one. What a Face

I want everyone here to take this comment as if it were coming from an opinionated old man (because I'm old and opinionated, HA!). Gamers have VERY STRANGE taste in music!

I don't care to watch youtube and so I definitely won't try to post links to them. And, as someone else has said, I can't really pick a single favourite song, ever. I have genres that I prefer over others and there are bands that have always been right up there in my tops. But over all, I have interest in many, many, many types of music (I've been an amateur musician for almost 40 years, so go figure, yeah?)

So, all that being said, I'll give a list of song that have been in my recently played list on my phone.

Depeche Mode - Should Be Higher
Mindless Self Indulgence - Tom Sawyer
Bauhaus - Lagarjita Nick
The Cure - The Kiss
The White Stripes - Hotel Yorba
Combichrist - What the F*&% Is Wrong With You
Blutengel - Cry Little Sister
VNV Nation - Illusion
Tones On Tail - Movement of Fear
Sonic Youth - Little Trouble Girl

anyway... the list goes on and on and on!

I can hang with skywd, but often take a more punk slant.  Here's a few others.

I'm not much of a Stone Roses fan, but I've got a bunch of old punk on my computer as well!

Can't believe no one has mentioned Queen.

There's no accounting for taste.

I've never been drawn to Queen, but couldn't say why. Maybe because they sound like they write and perform in musicals? But no, I like certain other musical-songs.

A date recently introduced me to Axis of Awesome, who I get a big kick out of:

4 Chords

Rage of Thrones

Queen most definitely DOES sound like they should have written musicals. And if they had, they would have been even more badass than they already were!

Well, you can't go far wrong when your lead guitarist is Sir Isaac Newton. Wink

I'm partial to Elton John, whose songs actually have featured in musical movies. Wink

The Lion King was a favorite of mine as a kid, and I still love the soundtrack.

Moulin Rouge is generally a snorefest, but has a great rendition of Your Song.

Not a musical per se, but I watched Almost Famous just to hear Tiny Dancer in context.

Yes. Very Happy

Brian May, as well as being an awesome guitarist, is also an astrophysicist. Our Astronomer Royal, Martin Rees, happened to remark once to May that "I don't know any scientist who looks as much like Isaac Newton as you do".

The resemblance is quite uncanny, as a Google image search will confirm.

Yeah, Elton John is an amazing writer. The Lion King is NOT one of my favourites, but that's because it came out the year my son was born and he watched it all. the. time. So yeah... It was a bit overplayed. I don't deny that the music he wrote and performed for it was awesome, it is just too overplayed in my brain!

I didn't know what to think of Moulin Rouge. It was... different?

I haven't seen Almost Famous. I'm not a big movie watcher.

My gf and I have been collecting old vinyl from used record stores and we have several Elton John albums. We also have ELO, Scorpions, and the Carpenters! We just recently got a few of what I consider "real" country music (Hank Thompson, Tex Ritter, Hank Williams - the first one) and we also have acquired some Lords of the New Church, Cult, and Styx on vinyl!
